Are you sure, you want to add Henry Poole Is Here
to your wish list?
Storyline:
In a working class neighborhood in Los Angeles, a world weary Henry Poole buys a house, caring little about its lack of amenities. He drinks and eats pizza. Recent stucco work has left a brown stain in a patio wall, and, to Henry's irritation, Esperanza, a neighbor, is certain she can see the face of Jesus in the stain. She brings her priest, then others. Meanwhile, Henry hears his conversations replayed over the fence in another neighbor's yard: it's Millie, about 7, mute, clutching a tape recorder. He tells Millie's mom why he's sad and angry. The face on the wall seems to shed a tear of blood. Is Henry beyond feeling any emotion?

I went and saw "Henry Poole Is Here" tonight by myself. it was the perfect movie for me to see at the perfect time. its supposed to be a dark comedy, but it touched me on several levels.
i suggest going to see it BEFORE you read reviews or look at trailers. i liked not knowing what was going to come. i went because I saw Luke Wilson on a talk show and I happen to adore him. go see it.. you will delight in the persistence and love of the little neighbor lady Esperanza, you will giggle at the silly parts..possibly roll your eyes at the quirky parts.... but there is something very deep about this movie for those of us who struggle with the concepts of faith, feel deeply and are touched by hopelessness and loneliness.

I loved this movie. A great movie about faith and hope. Touching and funny. Luke Wilson and all of the cast were fabulous. I highly recommend this movie. It was a very pleasant surprise. My husband and I both enjoyed it. We will being adding it to our dvd collection as soon as it is released. Go see it.

A total of 6 people watched this movie at a 9:10p Saturday Night show. Why a movie like this is swept under the carpet and terrible movies like step brothers are given great advertising, I'll never understand.
The acting was fantastic, and well worth the money and time. If you're tired of stupid humor, sex and gay subject matter, see this movie.

This is a well acted and entertaining movie offering nostalgia, humor and even a hint of romance and features some good individual performances. Especially for younger viewers, it may tend to be slow in spots and even flirt with over-working a point, but in general it's free of most of the stereo typical gimmics except a couple of instances of unnecessary token language, no doubt thrown in to avoid the dreaded "G" rating, and predictable excesses in the size and exuberance of crowds, etc. My personal preference would have been a bit more time up front developing the story line and a little less dwelling on the current state of mind of the main character but in fairness that criticism wasn't shared by others who viewed the film with me. Although the music was good, the experience overall would probably have been enhanced with a little more musical emphasiis. You'll spend time trying to figure out what Henry Poole is really about, so I'd recommend it to those who like character studies.

I am at a loss to understand all the terrible fan reviews above. I enjoyed the movie, as did the people watching it with me. I found it very touching, and many of us in the audience were tearful. I highly recommend it to people who like tear jerkers.
